Thursday was an eventful evening for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.
The second-year player began the evening by leading the Colts on a 12-play, 80-yard run that was capped with a 9-yard touchdown throw to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.
However, on the Colts’ ensuing drive, Richardson threw a 14-yard pick-six to Bengals safety Jordan Battle.
Indianapolis made it three times on its next two attempts and was eliminated.
On his fifth and final drive, Richardson found Kylen Granson for a 21-yard pass. On the next play, however, Richardson dropped the ball. The Colts recovered the ball, but lost 10 yards and soon had to punt.
On the night, Richardson completed 8 of 14 passes for 86 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He was 7 of 8 for 65 yards on the opening drive, but then just 1 of 6 for 21 yards.
Thursday was his final warm-up before the regular season, but ultimately it was a night to forget and forget about, especially given that the Bengals were giving their core players a rest.
Richardson was only able to play four games in his rookie season after suffering a AC joint sprain grade 3 last October against the Tennessee Titans. He showed promise in limited action, scoring seven touchdowns (three passing, four running) and 713 yards (577 passing, 136 running).
Now he is healthy again and wants to make a big impression in his sophomore year.
Richardson is, of course, a tremendous talent capable of far better performances, or at least that’s what he consistently showed on the first drive.
He will look to start the regular season well at home against the Houston Texans on Sunday, September 8th.
