Licenses for Kelley’s Roast Beef, Semiramis Bakery and Bagel Time approved

WORCESTER – The Licensing Commission cleared the way for Kelly’s Roast Beef to open a location on Gold Star Boulevard and gave the go-ahead for a general restaurant license Thursday.

Jim Rataj, franchise manager of Kelly’s Roast Beef, said in an interview after the meeting that the target opening date was September 9.

This will be Kelly’s seventh location in the state.

Kelly’s will be in a building that replaces the demolished Volvo Cars location at 70 Gold Star Blvd.

Volvo Cars left the two-story building in October 2022 to move to Auburn. It is now known as Volvo Cars Auburn, a Patrick Motor Group retailer.

Kelly’s Roast Beef is famous for its beachside beginnings: it was founded in 1951 in a shack on Revere Beach.

In addition to seven locations in the state, Kelly’s also has a location in Salem, New Hampshire, and six in Florida.

Rataj said the Worcester store has 65 seats.

Golden Semiramis Bakery

Also on Thursday, the Commission granted a general restaurant license to Golden Semiramis Bakery, a Mediterranean food store.

This will be the fifth business along Lincoln Street for Sutton resident Jason Lwiss, who last year opened Golden House Grill, a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant in the plaza where Bob’s Discount Furniture serves as an anchor store.

Lwiss, who also owns the Golden Tandoori Bakery on Lamartine Street, said during the commission meeting that he will offer gyros and baklava, among other items, at his new store at 486 Lincoln Street.

Most recently, a branch of Santander Bank was located at this location.

Bagel time

Bagel Time also received approval for a general restaurant license on Thursday, clearing the way for the family-owned business to move to a new location at 500 Pleasant St.

The building was home to Michael’s Furs for 36 years until it closed in December 2022.

According to property records, the owners of Bagel Time purchased the building in February 2023; the store left its location at 194 Park Avenue after more than 30 years in business.
