Students look forward to move-in day at Western New England University

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (WGGB/WSHM) – Move-in day for incoming freshmen began Thursday at Western New England University in Springfield.

“I was thrilled with the move-in process, everything was calm, everything went smoothly,” Sarhy Gaspar, a freshman, told us.

Western New England University’s new freshmen were excited about the new academic year as they moved into their dormitories on Thursday.

“I’m a little nervous, but I’m looking forward to a new experience, just meeting new people and everything,” said prospective freshman Elli.

Administration told Western Mass News that move-in day is a fun and exciting way to start the academic year, especially this semester with a record number of new students.

“We have almost 950 students starting this fall. This is only the second time in the university’s history that we’ve actually exceeded the 900 mark,” Christopher Wystepek, executive director of admissions, outreach and recruitment at Western New England University, told us.

Western Mass News also spoke with parents who helped their freshman student settle into his dorm room.

They told us that moving in was much easier than expected.

“When I arrived, I went to get my child’s keys, and when I came back, my car was completely empty. This was absolutely amazing because it had taken a long time to pack,” claimed mother Carly Sarrantinio.

Although moving away from home can be difficult, students told us they are excited about the coming year.

“I think it’s definitely a little overwhelming when you look at it, but once you get comfortable with it and figure it all out, it’s a great experience,” Elli said.

The fun doesn’t stop today. Faculty told us that there are events and activities planned for students all week long here at Western New England University.
