It is really a great time, a Lord of the rings Fan. Between The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Premiere is next week and a Gollum film by Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis on the way, there is much to look forward to from the fantastic world of JRR Tolkien. And now we have the first trailer (above) for The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim film to get us excited about the series’ first theatrical release in a decade.
The War of Rohirrim Trailer marks the first Lord of the rings Anime, and it looks like a beautiful vision of Kenji Kamiyama, who in particular has some of the Ghost in the Shell Series, Ultraman And Blade Runner: Black Lotus. After the trailer debut, the story, which is set 200 years before the main series, looks like a great cinematic outing that we’ll see towards the end of the 2024 cinematic schedule. However, I’m particularly excited by how much it reminds me of a Hayao Miyazaki film.
I love that The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim is a cinematic event
Yes, the last time audiences gathered to see Middle-earth on the big screen was in 2014. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies by Peter Jackson, so it’s great to see how the trailer connects the original films to this one. There’s a beautiful transition that reveals the 2D animation, which seems to offer many unique ways to see Middle Earth through a new lens.
When The War of Rohirrim was announced In 2021, New Line Cinema shared that the film had been “brought to the big screen,” and I find that so exciting. In a world where more and more animation projects are moving to streaming services, it’s great that we can look forward to seeing this project in theaters – even in an IMAX version. Of course, it also helps that the first look is absolutely convincing.
The War of Rohirrim is clearly influenced by Hayao Miyazaki, and I can’t wait
As the two-and-a-half minute preview shows, The War of Rohirrim allows audiences to experience the War of the Ring from the time of Helm Hammerhand, the ninth King of Rohan. As the trailer shows, the story revolves around his daughter Héra. Although she is apparently proposed to by a childhood friend, she wants to join the battle and become a true leader. And we see her take part in some major battles.
In the summer, Héra’s voice actress, Gaia Wise, EW that her character resembles heroines from Hayao Miyazaki films like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and contrasts with other women in the Lord of the rings franchise like Arwen and Éowyn. She seems to be in tune with nature and not afraid of a fight, but underneath there also seems to be an emotional story to tell about her father and her past with Wulf.
As a fan of all of Miyazaki’s films, I can see the influence and I definitely consider it something that increases my anticipation for what’s new. Lord of the rings movie. Plus, there’s something magical about the idea of seeing animated Middle Earth creatures instead of computer-generated ones (and it looks great in this preview). It feels like the series was made to be adapted this way!
With The War of Rohirrim Delving into a story that doesn’t contain page after page of Tolkien lore, I’m excited to see Middle Earth adapted into a beautiful anime, and I’m thrilled that we’re getting a powerful heroine that we haven’t seen in these movies and in this way. You can look forward to The War of Rohirrim in cinemas on December 13th.
