Three more speakers from the Arizona DNC are scheduled for the last day in Chicago

PHOENIX – The swing state of Arizona will also be in the spotlight on the final day of the Democratic National Convention with three more speakers.

According to the Associated Press, U.S. Senator Mark Kelly, his wife and former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and Representative Ruben Gallego, who hopes to follow Kelly to the Senate, are scheduled to speak at the DNC on Thursday.

All three appeared on stage with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz at a campaign rally in Glendale earlier this month.

The convention will conclude with the acceptance speech by the current Vice President on the occasion of his nomination.

Who are the Arizona DNC speakers for Day 4?

Kelly, a finalist for vice president, was announced earlier this week as one of the campaign’s “trusted ambassadors” from swing states who will speak at some point at the convention.

Giffords was seriously injured in a mass shooting in Tucson in 2011 and, with the support of her husband, became a prominent advocate for gun control.

“I am thrilled to be addressing the nation tonight at @DemConvention ahead of one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes,” Giffords said in a post on X Thursday morning.

Gallego is the Democratic nominee for the seat currently held by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who did not seek re-election. He faces Republican Kari Lake in the November general election, a race that could determine which party controls the Senate.

Which other Arizonans were in the spotlight at the conventions?

Kelly, Giffords and Gallego follow a handful of other representatives from the Grand Canyon State into the spotlight at the convention.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and Deja Foxx, a 23-year-old social media activist and strategist from Tucson, addressed the crowd on Monday.

That same evening, Valley union members Ryan Ahern and Dutch Martinez were livestreamed on the arena’s video screen to talk about the Biden-Harris administration’s investments in the manufacturing industry.

On Tuesday evening, Mesa Mayor John Giles took the stage, one of several speakers at the Republican National Convention supporting the Harris-Walz candidate team.

Also on Tuesday, Stephanie Grisham – who previously served as a spokeswoman for several Arizona state officials and spent time in Donald Trump’s administration – gave a speech about why she is supporting Harris over her former boss in the 2024 presidential election.
