The Chicago Cubs are trying to recreate the magic of 2016, when they won the World Series and ended one of the longest losing streaks in North American sports history.

Led by a core of homegrown talent, the Cubs were able to give the city something no one will forget. But that era, like all good things, came to an end.

Chicago eventually began removing some of these players from its roster, initiating a rebuild that the team has not yet emerged from.

One of the last survivors from this time was Jason Heyward.

He joined the Cubs before their championship season and signed an eight-year, $184 million contract. The outfielder played a key role in the Cubs lifting the Cup, winning the Gold Glove and delivering a fiery speech in Game 7 that led Chicago to victory.

And while his play in the later stages of his tenure has drawn mixed feelings from fans, he will always be an important part of this franchise.

When the Cubs let him go as a free agent after 2022, Heyward signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In 2023, he had a successful season with them, posting a batting average of .269/.340/.473 with 15 home runs and 40 RBI in his 124 games, earning him $9 million that year.

However, the Dodgers have now decided to nominate him for the assignment by Robert Murray from FanSided when his performance dropped rapidly this season and the outfield became crowded.

When this is over for the 15-year veteran, he can look back on a very solid career.

Although he may not have lived up to expectations after being selected 14th overall in 2007, he recorded over 1,500 hits, 180 home runs and 709 RBIs during his career, while also being selected as an All-Star and receiving five Gold Glove Awards.
