Russian troops destroyed nearly 12,000 Ukrainian facilities, half of them civilian

UKRAINE, August 22 – Since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops have destroyed 11,879 Ukrainian facilities, 52.2 percent of which are civilian buildings and infrastructure, said Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Russia has destroyed more than 6,000 civilian objects, including residential buildings, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, as well as cultural and infrastructure facilities.

Oleksandr Syrskyi said that on average the Russian army attacks about eleven Ukrainian facilities a day.

At around 13:00 yesterday, the Russian army attacked the village of Kozacha Lopan in the Kharkiv region with artillery, hitting a village council building and burying three people under the rubble. Later, Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of the Kharkiv region, reported that rescue workers had pulled a woman from the rubble. She was slightly injured.

  • The Russians shelled the village of Prykolote, killing two people and wounding six others. The shelling also set fire to furniture, structural elements and the roof of the warehouse building, said Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv region.
