Devin Townsend will play “a lot of STRONG YOUNG LAD” on his upcoming tour

Devin Townsend will play “a lot of STRONG YOUNG LAD” on his upcoming tour

Devin Townsend has recruited some really interesting lineups for its recent tours. Townsend is about to play a career-spanning set (including Strong young lad Material) together with guitarist Wes Hauch (Alluvialex-The Facelessex-Initiate of the Black Crown), bassist Kyle Konkiel (Evil Wolves) and drummer Dirk Verbeuren (Megadethex-Groundwork).

In an interview with MetalSucks, Townsend revealed that he is planning another tour this summer, which will feature “a lot of strapping, a lot of DTP and all the stuff that people want to hear.” In addition to drummer Kerim “Krimh” Lechner, Townsend has also recruited Hauch again (Septic fleshex-Beheaded) and bassist Liam Wilson (Asuzaex-The Dillinger Escape Plan) for the 70,000 ton metal cruise.

“The next (tour) thing is Volume 2, which I’m starting with all these festivals – we’re playing Rock am Ring, Rock im Park, Bloodstock, Tuska, Wacken and Hellfest. And that’s a different group of people, an incredible group of people. I basically did an online poll and asked, ‘What do you want to hear?’ from the whole catalog, including strapping. For Volume 2, which I’m bringing to North America later, it’s those songs, so lots of strapping, lots of DTP, all that stuff that people want to hear.

“I have a band for the summer – a four-piece band though – and right now it looks like Wes Hauch, who played with me on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. He was in The Faceless and Glass Casket. Such a damn good guitar player, holy shit. And Krimh on drums, who was in Septicflesh, Decapitated and Behemoth. Super strong player who can turn it up as loud as he can on the groovy stuff. It looks like Liam will be playing bass, who used to be in Dillinger Escape Plan. Really great guys, super confident players. Good vibes.

“I want this tour – the Volume 2 thing – to be totally different. I want it to be open to the audience and say, ‘What do you want to hear?’ There’s 25 records of shit. There’s Strapping, there’s Terria, there’s Ziltoid, there’s DTP, there’s DTB, there’s all that shit. Tell me what to play and I’ll play it. So that’s the tour after this one that’s coming up.”
