The British pay-TV broadcaster Sky has commissioned an original crime series in which Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone) plays the lead role.

Under Salt Marsh is a six-part miniseries from writer and creator Claire Oakley (Make Up), who is also the lead director. Cardiff-based Little Door Productions and Sky Studios are producing the series, with filming due to begin later this year.

The drama is set in a fictional Welsh town, in a close-knit community precariously situated between towering mountains and a fast-approaching sea that threatens their existence. As a once-in-a-generation storm brews far out at sea, a former detective and now teacher (Reilly) discovers the apparent drowned body of her eight-year-old student.

The discovery sends shockwaves through the community, reviving the ghost of an unsolved case that rocked the town three years earlier: the disappearance of the teacher’s niece, which cost her her career as a detective.

Jonathan Harbottle and Nikita Lalwani co-write Under Salt Marsh with Oakley. Mary Nighy directs episodes three and four and Scott Bassett is a producer on the series. Oakley is an executive producer along with Elwen Rowlands, CEO of Little Door, and Megan Spanjian, Senior Executive Producer at Sky Studios.

Under Salt Marsh will be available on Sky and the streaming service Now in the UK, Ireland and Italy. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle international distribution.
