Rain expected again in Mendocino County Thursday evening • The Mendocino Voice

MENDOCINO Co., 8/21/24 – Parts of Mendocino County experienced light precipitation this past weekend. The rain must have enjoyed its rare and brief visit in August, because precipitation is expected across the county starting Thursday night.

The cause? A rare cold front moving down from the Alaska Panhandle.

For this reason, the National Weather Service Eureka (NWS Eureka) predicts that precipitation is likely in some areas starting Thursday evening. Rain chances are highest on Friday. Thunderstorms are possible in some areas. It will be dry through Saturday evening. Temperatures will be unseasonably cool.

Inland Mendocino County

NWS Eureka forecasts that Leggett and Piercy will have a 20% chance of rain starting Thursday evening, with rain very likely after 11 a.m. Friday. Rain will continue through the evening, totaling up to 1.25 inches of precipitation. Temperatures on Friday will be a high of 68 degrees and a low of 51.

Laytonville will be dry Thursday night. There is a 70% chance of rain Friday with highs around 19 degrees. Rain will continue into the evening and precipitation will taper off overnight. Lows will be around 9 degrees. Rainfall could be 0.5 inches or less. Laytonville celebrates its 150th anniversary on Saturday.th Anniversary at the rodeo grounds. There is a 30 percent chance of rain, but it will remain mostly sunny with highs of 23 degrees.

In Covelo and Round Valley, unsettled weather will begin early Friday morning with patches of fog. Rain is likely after 11 a.m. Highs will be around 20 degrees. Rain chances will remain high Friday evening, with lows around 6 degrees. The valley could see up to 3/4 inch of rain on Friday. Residents will wake up to patches of fog on Saturday morning, with a lower chance of precipitation during the day. It will be partly sunny with highs around 24 degrees.

Willits residents will also wake up to scattered fog Friday morning, with rain starting around 11 a.m. and continuing into the evening. Rainfall on Friday could total 0.75 inches. Highs will be around 65 degrees and lows around 47 degrees. Saturday morning will see more scattered fog and a 30 percent chance of rain before becoming mostly sunny with highs in the 70s.

Rain is likely in Redwood Valley starting at 11 a.m. on Friday and continuing into the evening. Highs will be around 22 degrees and lows around 11 degrees. Precipitation could be just over 6 mm. On Saturday, the valley will wake up before 11 a.m. with a 30% chance of rain and patches of fog. It will be dry and mostly sunny with highs around 25 degrees.

Potter Valley will begin with patches of fog on Friday. There is a 60% chance of rain on Friday. Total precipitation will be less than 0.6 cm. Highs will be 21°C and lows will be 7°C. Saturday morning will be foggy, with a 30% chance of rain after 11am. Temperatures will be mostly sunny with highs around 24°C.

In Ukiah and Hopland, there is a 60% chance of rain on Friday. Highs will be 73°F and lows will be 55°F. Rainfall will be less than 1/4 inch. There is a 30% chance of rain on Saturday morning before it becomes sunny and highs will be 77°F.

Anderson Valley will wake up to patches of fog Friday before rain arrives after 11 a.m. Temperatures will be around 22 degrees. There is a 50% chance of rain in the evening with lows around 10 degrees. Patches of fog will return Saturday morning. A 20% chance of rain is possible. It should be mostly sunny with highs around 25 degrees. Rainfall will be less than 1/4 inch.

Mendocino Coast

Westport and Fort Bragg have a 30% chance of rain after 11 p.m. Thursday. Both communities can expect rain on Friday, with total precipitation of 0.75 inches or less. Highs will be in the 60s and lows will be 54 degrees. Saturday morning has a 30% chance of rain. Fort Bragg may have some fog around midday. Both areas will be mostly sunny in the afternoon, with highs in the 60s.

In Mendocino Village, the chance of rain is 30% late Thursday night. Early risers will wake up to fog Friday morning before becoming mostly cloudy with highs around 17 degrees. Rain is expected throughout the day and into the early evening. Lows will be around 13 degrees. Rainfall will peak at 0.5 inches. On Saturday, the chance of rain drops to 30% with mostly sunny weather and highs around 17 degrees.

In Point Arena on Friday it will rain and be mostly cloudy. Highs will be 61 degrees and lows will be 54 degrees. Rainfall will be less than 0.25 inches. On Saturday there is a 30% chance of rain, but it will be mostly sunny with highs around 63 degrees.

Our last stop is Gualala, where there is a 50% chance of rain starting Friday afternoon into the evening. Highs will be 54 degrees and lows 50 degrees. Rainfall will be less than 20ths of an inch. Saturday will have a 30% chance of rain with mostly sunny weather and highs of 56 degrees.
