The best novels: 6 books you absolutely have to read

The best novels: 6 books you absolutely have to read

I have long described myself as an avid reader; I really and truly love a good book.

And although I must admit that I am not a big fan of nonfiction, I consider myself an expert on fiction.

I guarantee that I have read pretty much everything that has been published over the years, from romance novels to crime, from fantasy to mystery, from classics to series…

If you’re looking to add something to your reading list, I’ve compiled my absolute favorite novels below.

the last letter from your lover

The Last Letter from Your Lover by Jojo Moyes

My God, I cried while reading this book. Bittersweet tears.

The book constantly jumps back and forth between the 1960s and 2003. In the 60s, Jennifer Stirling is a woman trying to navigate her life after waking up with no memory following a car accident. In 2003, Ellie Haworth is a journalist trying to track down Jennifer after coming across several sweet love letters written to her…

The two stories are wonderfully intertwined and the ending is simply delightful!

both sides of midnight

“Either Side of Midnight” by Benjamin Stevenson

This book is the second in Benjamin Stevenson’s Jack Quick series, but I liked it better than the first and it works well on its own.

Having said that, the first book by Jack Quick Green light is also very good; I would give it 8.5 out of 10, while Both sides of midnight would get a 9…Seriously, just read both books!

The sequel brings the protagonist back from Green lightthe investigative journalist Jack Quick, and follows him as he tries to solve a new mystery: Sam Midford, a famous TV presenter, puts a gun to his head during a live broadcast and pulls the trigger. But Sam’s twin brother is convinced that it was not suicide, but murder…

best novels - The Miller's Wives

The Miller Women by Kelli Hawkins

This is neither a lie nor an exaggeration; I read The Miller Women in one afternoon because it captivated me from the beginning and I simply couldn’t put it down.

First of all, the main mystery was incredibly intriguing – Cara, a young girl, goes missing and Nicole Miller begins investigating because she fears her daughter Abby may have killed Cara. Why? Because Nicole is a murderer herself and wonders if murder runs in the family.

Plus, The Miller Women has not just one, but three strong female protagonists: Over the course of the story, it is told from the perspective of grandmother Joyce Miller, mother Nicole Miller and daughter Abby Miller.

best novels - My Sister's Keeper

My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult

The end of this book is so heartbreaking, but you won’t see it coming, For the life of my sister a must.

And if you’re thinking, “I saw the movie and the ending wasn’t an unexpected twist,” then you should know that the ending of the movie is significantly different from the book. This has really annoyed me since the movie starring Cameron Diaz came out in 2009.

Incredibly thought-provoking, For the life of my sister follows 13-year-old Anna, who sues her parents for medical emancipation after they are asked to donate a kidney to her sister and leukemia patient Kate.

The best novels - Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carol

Alice in Wonderland is a classic for a reason. It is simply a pleasure to read and will put a smile on your face.

If you’re not familiar with it (are you living a completely secluded life?), the story is about Alice, who, after falling down a rabbit hole, discovers a veritable wonderland.

Best Novels - The Seven Husbands by Evelyn Hugo

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I truly believe this is one of the best – if not the best – romance novel of all time.

The book begins with Monique Grant, a young magazine reporter new to the industry. Monique is shocked beyond belief when her boss tells her that reclusive Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo says she would only agree to an interview if Monique conducted it herself and wrote the story…

Nervous but determined to jumpstart her career, Monique heads to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment ready for the interview.

Then she and the reader are transported back to the 1950s and learn the truth about Evelyn’s glamorous and scandalous life… a life that seems to intersect with Monique’s.
