Oprah’s speech at the Democratic Convention stirs up Democrats’ emotions and hits tyrant Trump

Oprah’s speech at the Democratic Convention stirs up Democrats’ emotions and hits tyrant Trump

“Decency and respect are on the ballot in 2024,” Oprah Winfrey said Wednesday night at the Democratic Party convention in Chicago during a semi-surprise visit to the city that made her famous. “Common sense tells us that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz can give us decency and respect.”

“Let us choose common sense over nonsense,” Winfrey said in her 10-minute “Best of America” address to thousands of delegates. “America is an ongoing project that requires commitment… and every now and then it requires standing up to the tyrants of life.”

“If we stand together, it is impossible to defeat us.”

“No matter what ship our ancestors arrived on, we are all in the same boat now,” the former daytime television queen informed the United Center, quoting civil rights leader John Lewis. “We have been through ridiculous tweets and silliness,” Winfrey added, a clear jab at GOP candidate Donald Trump.

Trump wasn’t the only Republican the self-proclaimed independent Winfrey took to task. The American icon mocked Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance (D-OH) for denigrating “childless cat ladies” who supposedly both run and ruin the country.

“When a house burns, we don’t ask the race or religion of the homeowner,” Winfrey said. “We don’t ask who their partner is or how they voted. No, we just try to do our best to save them. And if the house happens to belong to a childless female cat, we try to get that cat out, too.”

She also took the cruelty and hatred expressed by Trump and his MAGA supporters very personally.

“I’ve lived in Mississippi, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Maryland, Indiana, Florida, Hawaii, Colorado, California, and my hometown of Chicago,” Oprah told the crowd. “I’ve experienced racism and sexism and income inequality and division. I’ve not only seen it, I’ve been a victim of it myself at times. But mostly I’ve seen and experienced people, both conservative and liberal, who may not agree with you but will still help you right away when you’re in trouble. Those are the people who make me proud to say I’m an American.”

Vice President Kamala Harris is far ahead of Trump in the polls and will deliver her own acceptance speech to the DNC on Thursday as the first black woman nominated for president by a major American party.
