It is believed that a half-naked man filmed running down a dirt road in Indonesia may be a member of an extinct, ancient Indonesian tribe.
The mysterious man frightened a group of bikers traveling near Banda Aceh on the northern tip of the island of Sumatra when he randomly appeared in front of them.
Helmet camera footage shows a man falling off his motorcycle in shock when the man appeared.
The man stops to look at the fallen biker and then quickly flees into the bush.
The rest of the group stops where the mysterious man fled into the bushes to search for him, but instead they find the large stick he was carrying.
YouTube user Fredography uploaded the video of the encounter about five days ago and it has since been viewed nearly 2.5 million times.
Those commenting on the video suggested that the man, who is much shorter than the average Indonesian man, might belong to the mythical Mante tribe, a lost Indonesian pygmy tribe.
The ethnic group is the subject of an urban legend about the origins of the people of Aceh, which has been passed down from generation to generation on the island for centuries.
Pygmies are adult men who are less than 150 centimeters (4 feet 11 inches) tall.
Although there has been no scientific expedition to prove the presence of the tribe, since the video was released there has been much discussion on the Internet and extensive media coverage about the possibility of the tribe’s existence.
It is believed that seven tribes still live in the northern province of Aceh.
However, the majority of the population believes that the Mante people are merely a legend.
Many people also posted comments on the video saying that it was fake and that the man was not from a lost tribe at all.
