Despite protests, vice presidential candidate Tim Walz takes center stage on the third day of the DNC

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – On the third day of the Democratic National Convention, police responded to protests in Chicago, making it difficult for delegates, celebrities, media and ordinary citizens to get around. But the convention is going on, with the focus on vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Walz will try to demonstrate his qualifications for the office of Vice President and be a tough campaigner against Trump.

Hawaii Governor Josh Green, who knows Walz, spoke like many other Democrats about the balance of this election campaign, including in ethnic terms.

“I’m excited about this ballot,” Green said. “It’s balanced, you know, a man and a woman, an African-American vice president, now presidential candidate, and a haole guy from the Midwest.”

On Wednesday, the focus was mainly on diversity, but also on stars like Stevie Wonder, John Legend and rumors about Beyoncé. Even comedian Keenan Thompson criticized the Republican document called “Project 2025.”

But the day was not without protests. About two and a half kilometers from the venue, police cordons surrounded the area as a mass march moved down a street north of the arena.

Police marched shoulder to shoulder and on bicycles, not allowing the media through their barriers – even when the protesters were far away. There were an estimated 5,000 to 10,000 people of all ages.
