Rupert Grint talked about how he used parts of the Harry Potter Film experience “suffocating”.

The actor spent his formative years playing Ron Weasley in all seven films in the wizarding series after being cast in the role at the age of 11.

In a new interview with Bustle, Rupert admitted that his and Ron’s identities had become synonymous over the years, resulting in an “out-of-body experience.”

He also said he was glad the films ended in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, otherwise things “could have gone downhill.”

“In the films, we merged into one. In the end, I played myself. The boundaries were blurred,” he said.

“I respond when someone calls me Ron. That’s my middle name.”

Rupert continued: “Potter was so busy – (filming) all year, and then the rest of the time we were doing promotion.

“It was pretty overwhelming. I wanted a break to think about everything… It was like an out-of-body experience for a while, but I think we finished at the right time. If we had carried on, it could have been even worse.”

In a separate interview with GQ Hype, Rupert admitted that he has only rewatched one of the Harry Potter films so far, but is looking forward to watching them with his two-year-old daughter on Wednesday when she grows up.

He also spoke of his hope that JK Rowling’s books will be adapted into a television series – although he would find it strange to leave the role of Ron to someone else.

“I think it would really work. I’m sure the films will be remade anyway,” he said.

“I think it would feel like passing the baton and having someone else play Ron.

“It’s weird because I’m so protective of him, I could relate to him so well and then I was chosen to bring him to life. That’s hard to let go of. But it would be nice if I could.”
