Harris County Crime: Suspect who placed dummy bomb on FM 2920 arrested

Authorities said the suspect wanted for placing a dummy bomb on FM 2920 in Harris County last week has been arrested.

Officials said it all started when they responded to a suspicious object placed in the center lane of a roadway in the 4700 block of FM 2920 on August 16.

When authorities arrived, deputies secured the area and found that a man, later identified as Travis Alexander, had intentionally placed the suspicious object in the median and fled the scene.

After several hours and the arrival of several authorities at the scene, it turned out that the suspicious object was not an explosive or incendiary device, but a dummy bomb designed to raise the alarm.

Officials said the fake bomb disrupted thousands of people for about four hours who normally travel along FM 2920 and visit businesses in the area.

After reviewing several surveillance videos from the area, police investigators were able to determine the identity of the man who intentionally planted the fake bomb and obtain a warrant for his arrest.

Alexander was arrested Tuesday after authorities served an arrest warrant in the 20800 block of E Cricket Circle.

Alexander is accused of the bombing.

His bail was set at $100.

His next court date is scheduled for August 28.
