I’m a celebrity…get me out of here! Star Brittany Hockley gave her an unfiltered interview Life uncut Co-star Laura Byrne talks about life in the South African jungle, from food shortages and fighting in the camp to saucy answers about masturbation, general hygiene and who showered naked.
After a four-week stay in the jungle, Brittany narrowly missed out on making it to the finals, which was later crowned winner Skye Wheatley. Although Brittany said her jungle trip was full of ups and downs, she also said it was a positive experience overall…aside from the lack of food.
“There were actually days when you couldn’t walk far without sitting down, people got dizzy, Callum sometimes slept 12 hours a day, you didn’t have the energy… so on those days they would send over a banana, a banana for everyone,” Brittany revealed about the food situation in the jungle.
“I didn’t think the lack of food would be real,” she continued. “I knew I would be hungry, I thought they would sneak you more food if you were struggling! I lost 12lbs in four weeks. The boys lost 22lbs.”

The radio and podcast star went on to say that campmates in the jungle never knew the date or time.
“I don’t know what the purpose is, but you have no idea when you wake up, when you go to sleep, when you eat, you don’t know anything,” Britt said. “You don’t know if you slept four hours, slept eight hours… You get up, eat oats and then you don’t know what you did to fill the hours.”

When Laura said it looked like Candice was in the wrong and asked Skye to hand over her lip liner, Brittany dismissed this and said that everyone was actually on Candice’s side.
“Candice was right and everyone agreed with her. In the jungle it wasn’t such a big deal,” Britt said.

“Everyone had two minutes to hand it over (their contraband) or there would be consequences like withholding food,” she explained. “So everyone handed it over except Skye. Candice knew she had it, but no one else knew. Candice didn’t want to starve, she didn’t want to blame anyone.
“Candice and Skye deal with their emotions very differently. But everyone thought it was a fair request for Candice to ask her to hand it over.”

“You could shower every day, but you don’t,” she laughed. “Frankie and Skye were by far the most disgusting. It was so cold and you’re outside, there are spiders, snakes, scorpions…
“Callum was the only one who showered naked!” she added.
As for women’s periods in the jungle, Britt found it “tough” because she uses a menstrual cup.
“That was definitely tough. They give you pads and tampons and you know there’s a room of 80 people watching,” Britt said of using a menstrual cup and knowing there’s an entire camera and production crew watching celebrities’ every move. “There’s no way I would take out a menstrual cup and pour my blood into the sink. I would do it at night and wash my hands, go to the sink, take it out, go back out, clean it, rinse it, wash my hands again… I could have used tampons, (but) I made that decision a few years ago.”
When Laura asked if anyone masturbated in the jungle, Brittany apparently thought it unlikely that anyone would “get off.”

“You’re so exhausted, so you’re not horny. I’ve often woken up with a hand on my chest, so that’s a comfort, sometimes it was on my crotch but I just held it,” she said. “Nobody masturbates, but if you’ve ever seen me with my hands on my private parts, that’s a comfort!”
What the celebrities earn
Britt remained silent about her actual earnings from the show, but admitted that she had initially turned it down.
“You have to get paid for leaving your job. People negotiate whatever they think they need to get in,” she revealed. “They offered me an amount and I said no because it wasn’t enough – I would lose money. They renegotiated for me and everyone had a different salary but nobody talks about it. Frankie would have gotten the most, no doubt.”
Daily Mail Australia announced last year that celebrities on the 2023 series would earn between $35,000 and $180,000.
