The little fall preview continues Thursday morning, as lows should drop to just under 70 degrees away from the coast. In some places north of I-10, temperatures may even drop to just under 65 degrees! That will make it much easier to get out of the house on the way to work or school for the rest of the week. In the afternoon, temperatures will climb back up to just under 90 to 95 degrees. That’s hot, but the good news is that the drier air will keep the heat index from rising too far above actual temperatures!

As for rain, the chances are low and the weather forecast is for 20% or less chance of rain in the next few days as one or two isolated showers may form daily. This is good news for rice farmers in the region who are harvesting rice and need dry weather.

By the weekend and early next week, there are some signs that the weather pattern may be changing. The high pressure area aloft will be replaced by a low pressure area aloft that will move across the Gulf. This could increase the chance of rain and lower temperatures. It’s worth noting that computer models tend to shift the highs far too quickly, and it’s entirely possible that we’ll still see limited rain at best this weekend and next week. Stay tuned for potential forecast changes depending on what happens with this high.

Things are quiet in the tropics, with no signs of development expected for at least the next week. This is great news, as we are still in the midst of hurricane season, but there is still a long way to go in this season. Keep in mind that the season officially runs through November 30, while the chances of tropical impacts on SWLA historically decline quickly after mid-October.
