Homicide investigation launched in Topeka after 37-year-old man dies of injuries

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – The Topeka Police Department (TPD) announces it has launched a homicide investigation following the death of a Topeka man.

Kyle E. Higgins, 37, of Topeka died as a result of a recent incident, TPD said in a news release Wednesday, August 21.

Police officers arrested two Topekan residents following a chase, attempted first-degree murder and kidnapping on Tuesday, August 20. Lorenzo Antonio Pattmon III, 21, and Rammelo Hakeem Boatwright, 24, are linked to Higgins’ death.

According to officials, Pattmon III was imprisoned in connection with the following:

  • Attempted premeditated murder
  • Serious kidnapping
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Violation of probation conditions

Boatwright was jailed in connection with:

  • Attempted premeditated murder
  • Serious kidnapping
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Serious bodily harm
  • Serious child endangerment
  • Obstructing a police officer
  • Violation of probation conditions

The case is being investigated as part of the city’s 13th homicide investigation of 2024. You can read more about Tuesday’s incident HERE.
