Machine Gun Kelly’s autographs fetch ridiculous sums

Machine Gun Kelly’s autographs fetch ridiculous sums

Would you pay $1,500 for a Machine Gun Kelly autograph?

That’s the price a trading card dealer asked for last weekend when I covered the Fanatics Festival in NYC for OutKick, which featured a ton of A-list celebrities. However, if you didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars for a photo or autograph with the likes of Allen Iverson, Kareem Abdul Jabaar or Olivia Dunne (who I met and who liked my shirt, no big deal), you could always head to the convention center’s memorabilia section.

There were tens of thousands of different pieces of memorabilia, including trading cards – a hell of a lot of them. Among them, I found what some might call a diamond in the rough: a Machine Gun Kelly-signed card from his days on MTV’s Jackass, selling for FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS.

As someone who believes in capitalism and letting the market determine the value of something, I’m all for it… but are there really people who will shell out $1,500 for an MGK autograph trading card? As someone who collects cards and is relatively well versed in the memorabilia and collectibles market, this just seems completely absurd to me – regardless of whether the card is considered “rare.” It’s still… Machine Gun Kelly.

A quick eBay search for signed MGK items shows everything from people willing to bid $300-$600 for signed CDs to a photo of him with his ex-fiancée Megan Fox, signed only by the rapper-turned-rocker, currently listed for $477.00. Signed Funko Pop figures also go for hundreds of dollars.

I mean, to each their own, but maybe I’m wrong or just have different priorities – I wouldn’t spend that much money unless it’s Babe Ruth or, in the music world, maybe The Beatles, and I want all four of them to sign it… not just one, and certainly not just Ringo.

So, dear OutKick audience, I ask you: Do any of you spend $1,500 on a Machine Gun Kelly autograph? Or maybe you’ve made regrettable souvenir purchases in the past. Or how about this: Who would you spend that much money on an autograph for? Let me know, tweet me at: @TheGunzShow
