Perfect Fantasy Football Draft: 6th in a 12-team Yahoo Half-PPR league

Perfect Fantasy Football Draft: 6th in a 12-team Yahoo Half-PPR league

When I select fantasy football leagues on Yahoo, I want to be either in the top three or right in the middle. Too often I’ve gotten stuck with picks 11 or 12 and missed out on not only the top players in a draft, but also a number of tight ends or quarterbacks later that I thought would wait until my next selection.

If you have the sixth pick in a 12-team Yahoo Draft, you’ll never have to wait for more than a dozen picks. You’ll have access to the top six players in the draft, plus you’ll be guaranteed two top-20 players on your roster before the game starts.

Winning teams can be formed anywhere in the draft, but the ability to position a team that is always in the middle of the draft board can be extremely advantageous.

In this article, I’ll go through my favorite players of each round that should be available to me based on Yahoo ADP and 4for4’s Multi-Site ADP, and discuss my overall draft strategy from that point.

The 4for4 team uses Draft Hero software for all of our leagues. Draft Hero syncs directly with your league and optimizes each pick using 4for4’s projections and value-based rankings. Draft Hero allows you to customize your draft experience with settings for which rounds you want to draft a position in, how many players you want at each position, and which players you want to target or avoid.

My plan of attack when drafting the Sixth

Roster settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, seven bench spots

If I can get a top three running back in half PPR home leagues, I’ll do it every time. The advantage I get from drafting Christian McCaffrey, Breece Hall, or Bijan Robinson is so great that it completely offsets the opportunity cost of getting a top five receiver.

Given the way the ADP for wide receivers typically breaks down on sites like Yahoo, it’s a lot easier to build a good wide receiver room around strong running backs than it is to build reliable running backs around a wide receiver room built with the first three picks of the draft.

However, if you pick sixth, there’s a good chance you’ll miss out on the top three spots. In that case, I’ll take the best pass receiver available and hope to get one of the top nine running backs when I get back to work in Round 2. From there, I’ll build up wide receivers and running backs to the middle rounds since I have overwhelming depth at quarterback and tight end this year.

Read on for a breakdown of my favorite picks through the 10th round and a list of the best targets in the later rounds at each position.
