Smith County receives pet disaster relief trailer from American Kennel Club

From Smith County

TYLER, Texas – Smith County officials unveiled their new Pet Disaster Relief Trailer to donors and the media on Wednesday, August 21.

Smith County is pleased to receive the Pet Disaster Relief Trailer from the American Kennel Club.

“This trailer will allow us to provide care and shelter for pets during times of disaster,” said Brandon Moore, Smith County Emergency Management Coordinator.

When people need to go to a shelter in emergency situations, they often won’t leave their homes unless their pets can accompany them. A mobile trailer that shelters pets in the event of a disaster will protect not only the pets, but their owners as well.

“The trailer arrived fully equipped and ready to go thanks to our donors and the American Kennel Club,” Moore said. “We are very grateful to our community partners who donated money to make this possible and to the American Kennel Club. Smith County strives for excellence and one way we do that is by taking care of our citizens, including the four-legged ones, when disasters strike. We still have a lot of work to do, but this is a very important step.”

Some of the donors were present at the unveiling on Wednesday.

Donors who helped Smith County receive the pendant include: Pets Fur People, Mutt Nation, Smith County Animal Control and Shelter, Dallas-Fort Worth Dachshund Club Inc., English Cocker Spaniel Club of America Health & Rescue Organization, Hunter Hogan Foundation, Rozell Sprayer Manufacturing Co. and Rose Country Retriever Club of East Texas.
