Give away clothes and diapers

WILLMAR — A clothing and diaper drive will be held at Harvest Community Church on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Diaper packages and donations of clean, brand new or gently used clothing will still be accepted on Aug. 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church, 905 Litchfield Ave. SW in Willmar.

CLARA CITY – The Clara City Lions will be serving food at Almich’s Market in Clara City on Thursday, August 22nd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs or bratwurst with chips and water are available for a voluntary donation.

CLARA CITY — Immanuel Lutheran of Clara City is hosting a Food for Kidz packing day on Saturday, Sept. 14. Packing will take place from 9 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m., or when the work is done: The goal is 42,000 meals. Relief work from set-up to truck loading will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sign up for all or part of the day; volunteers must be at least 5 years old. Kiwanis Touch-A-Life Award

WILLMAR – The Willmar Kiwanis Club is accepting nominations for the 2024 Touch-A-Life Award through Sept. 15. The club has recognized a Kandiyohi County citizen each year since 1978 who has demonstrated outstanding community service. Typically, the award recipient has performed ongoing volunteer work for the community, their church, school system, local government or other organization or program.

The first recipient was Bev Rosenbaum and the last three have been Vickie Vogt, Robert Rosenbrook and Darlene Bratberg. RENVILLE — The Renville Museum, operated by the Historic Renville Preservation Commission, will serve hot dogs, chips and root beer floats for a voluntary donation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in front of the Renville Museum on Bryant Avenue in Renville. Funds raised will go toward installing heating, ventilation and air conditioning at the museum. In the event of rain, the event will be held at Dave’s Place.

SPICER – Spicefest for Veterans, featuring music, vendors, free children’s activities, softball and food for purchase, will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in downtown Spicer. Proceeds benefit area veterans organizations. More information is available online at spicefestforvets.com.

NEW LONDON — A fundraiser for the Ryane Clark Memorial Scholarship begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the American Legion in New London. Chicken dinner and bake sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., silent auction from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., meat raffle at 4 p.m.

U.S. Army Spc. Clark, a 2007 graduate of New London-Spicer High School, was killed on October 4, 2010 while deployed to Afghanistan.

From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. there will be a meet-and-greet with families and football players who will be attending the Minnesota Fallen Heroes football game between NLS and Glencoe-Silver Lake in October. The program was created by Gold Star parents Rick and Tracy Clark in honor of their son and consists of two high school teams playing that night not in their own names but in honor of a fallen local hero. Tailgating and other events begin at 4:30 p.m. on October 4, and the game begins at 7 p.m.

Food distribution in Kandiyohi district

WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Food Shelf helps people in Kandiyohi County who need food assistance. It is located at 624 Pacific Ave. SW in Willmar. More information is available online at kandiyohicountyfoodshelf.com.

Curbside pickup: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop at the stop sign outside the front door and call 320-235-2641.

Personal pickup: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10am-3pm; Friday, 10am-1pm. Park across the street or in the parking lot and bring your own bags/boxes.

NAPS distribution: Fourth Tuesday of every month, 1-2 p.m., Senior Nutrition Assistance Program for individuals age 60 and older who qualify based on income at Second Harvest Heartland. Call 800-365-0270 to register.
