Carcosa releases Pulp Fiction-based song and music video “Righteous Man”

I’ve always wanted to be the badass bitch in a Tarantino movie. First of all, I love that women can kick so much ass in Tarantino’s movies, making characters like the Bride and Shosanna some of cinema’s most iconic heroines. And who the hell doesn’t want to take a shiny new Hattori Hanzo sword and chop someone’s damn head off. Or burn down a movie theater full of Nazis, including Hitler himself. You know, just do girly stuff. Well, Vancouver-based melodic deathcore band Carcosa are living out their own Tarantino fantasies as well.

The band released a new single and video for “Righteous Man” yesterday. Both the song and the video are a tribute to Tarantino’s most famous classic. pulp FictionThis is the second time that Carcosa has paid tribute to Tarantino in a video. The first was three years ago with their video for their song “Vermin”, which used green screen over real footage from Kill BillFor “Righteous Man” – the title of which is an allusion to a Bible verse that Jules quoted at one point in pulp Fiction– the band had even more fun reenacting real scenes from the film, including the famous diner robbery scene.

The band’s singer, Johnny Ciardullo, explained the idea for the song and its video:

Righteous Man is a love letter to one of the best films in modern cinema history. Its emotional nature and polarizing dialogue are perfect for a brutal yet catchy blockbuster.

“After having so much fun putting ourselves through green screens in hilarious moments for ‘Nihilus,’ we knew what to do here. Sure, the subject matter might not be that directly funny, but we made sure we would get some laughs with some hilarious props — check out those guns — and our, er, acting.”

It’s the kind of hilarious video you’d expect from a pop-punk band, but somehow it’s even funnier that the music for this offbeat video is deathcore instead. It’s cheesy, funny, and pays tribute to one of the best movies of all time. So don’t be a… *imitates a square* and watch the video.
