Five Roadrunners land on Reese’s Senior Bowl watch list – UTSA Athletics

MOBILE, Alabama — UTSA seniors Kendrick Blackshire, Oscar Cardenas, De’Corian “JT” Clark, Joe Evans and Donyai Taylor landed on the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List, which was announced Wednesday morning.

For Cardenas, Clark and Evans, this is the second nomination to the postseason game All-Star watch list, as all three were selected for Shrine Bowl 1000 by the East-West Shrine Bowl in July.

Blackshire, an inside linebacker who excelled at Duncanville High School, is in his first season at UTSA after appearing in 24 games over the past three seasons at Alabama. As a member of the Crimson Tide, he recorded 25 total tackles, 13 solo stops, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Cardenas, a tight end from San Antonio Brandeis High School, is a two-time all-conference player for the Roadrunners. Last season, the John Mackey Award Watch List member caught 32 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns and was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Third Team. He has been a member of the program since 2019 and has 82 receptions for 997 yards and six TDs in 57 career games.

Clark, a wide receiver from Fort Worth OD Wyatt High School, was a second-team all-league player two years ago after catching 51 passes for 741 yards and eight touchdowns to help UTSA win the 2022 Conference USA Championship. This season, he set the program record for most receiving yards in a game with 217 yards and three TDs on nine receptions against Texas Southern. He will enter the 2024 season as a Roadrunner with 1,559 yards and 16 touchdowns on 112 catches.

Evans, a veteran defensive end from Haynesville, Louisiana, has earned all-conference honors in each of his first two seasons with the Roadrunners. He is also on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List this year and was named to the league’s third team last fall after totaling 18 tackles, 11 unassisted stops, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and a safety. The LSU transfer has 36 tackles, six TFLs and 3.5 sacks in 24 games as a Roadrunner.

Taylor, a veteran commit from Shiner, Texas, was named to the All-Conference second team last fall after recording 46 total tackles, 31 solo stops, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, six quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. In his career, he recorded 102 tackles, 58 unassisted stops, 11 TFLs, three sacks, four PBUs and two interceptions.

The Roadrunners, who finish second in the AAC Preseason Media Poll, open the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31 when they host Kennesaw State at 2:30 p.m. at the Alamodome.

Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling the UTSA Ticket Office at 210-458-UTSA (8872) Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Current UTSA football season ticket holders can renew their tickets by checking with their UTSA Account Manager.

Season tickets start at $90 per seat, with payment plans available for all season ticket packages.

Current UTSA students receive free admission to all home games by downloading tickets through their account manager.
