The Nintendo Museum will open in Kyoto this October
A Nintendo museum opens in Kyoto on October 2, 2024. Die-hard fans can discover and experience the history of the Japanese video game company’s entertainment landscape through a series of side-by-side exhibitions on the many products it has released over the years. In addition to the main shows, there is a cafe in the museum and a shop with official merchandise related to the theme NintendoGame worlds and characters from . The shop also offers items that are only available in the store. Ticket holders can use both areas.

Host for eight interactive gaming experiences
On the first floor Exhibition building 1The Nintendo Museum invites visitors to participate in eight unique gaming experiences enhanced by modern technology. Similar to online quests, players are each given ten digital coins required to participate in these interactive exhibitions. Interactive games include Shigureden, which allows users to explore Hyakunin Isshu poems using a special smart device and a giant screen projected onto the floor. The projection screen contains several cards that spell out the second half of each poem. Points are awarded based on how quickly users can discover the missing halves and collect the cards. Up to 20 people can play at once.

The Nintendo Museum also features Zapper & Scope, a shooting game that takes users into the world of Mario. Each participant can choose between the Zapper, which fires quickly, and the Super Scope, which allows for easy aiming. Once the choice is made, players begin shooting at “enemies” such as Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Chain Chomps. Up to 13 people can play at once.
In addition, Game & Watch, a once pocket-sized adventure, has been reimagined on a giant screen. Here, players can use their shadow projected onto the screen to participate in the game. Users can choose between Ball (the first Game & Watch version released) and Manhole. For the more traditional enthusiasts, the museum features a Nintendo Classics section, focusing on games released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and Nintendo 64 hardware. A two-player game with controllers reminiscent of those from childhood.
Visitors are invited to a two-story experience that takes them back to childhood
Finally, on the second floor of Exhibition Building 1, visitors can experience previously released Nintendo products. “The exhibits here are presented with little explanation. As you look at the objects on display, we encourage you to form your own thoughts – and share them with others!
