TRANSCRIPT OF THE MISSION:
Voter turnout was not as high as Gadsden County politicians and neighbors would have liked, but important decisions were made in several key races.

I’m Ashley Engle from Quincy, connecting with candidates heading into November and those declaring victory tonight.

The race for sheriff in November has been decided. Current Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young won the Democratic race against candidates Brian Alexander and Timothy Ashley.

In November, Sheriff Young will face Detrick McClellan and William Buckhalt. I spoke with Young about the support he is receiving in the county.

“The people of Gadsden County gave me the opportunity to help, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing for 20 years now: serving this community.”

Elijah Key won the election for superintendent and Tonjii Wiggins McGriff won the election for Gadsden County tax collector. It was a close call and Wiggins says she is grateful to those who supported her during the campaign.

“I was nervous, I prayed and asked God for it, and in the end he answered my prayers and the hard work was not in vain.”

Regarding voter turnout.

Only 38 percent of voters in Gadsden County participated in this primary. The head of the elections office says that in 2020, 44 percent of voters turned out to vote.

When voters go to the polls in November, they will also decide the race for the Third District County Commission.
