Lorraine Kelly has expressed her joy at becoming a grandmother for the first time. The TV presenter’s daughter Rosie Smith is expecting her first child with her partner Steve.
Lorraine, 64, returned to her ITV show on Monday, April 15, after spending a week on the show over Easter, which saw Christine Lampard take over as host. During her absence from her eponymous show, Lorraine’s daughter Rosie, 29, announced she is pregnant with her first baby – meaning Lorraine will soon be a grandparent.
The mother of one wasted no time in announcing the happy news publicly on her show on Monday, admitting that she has already thought of a nickname and is “very excited.”
Speaking to Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid, Lorraine said: “I’m a granny, how exciting is that. Granny Smith! Because my married name is Smith, so I’m Granny Smith!” Susanna laughed along and said: “Yes, you’re Granny Smith!”
Lorraine added: “We’re all really excited. It’s great and wonderful and yes, it’s cheered everyone up which is great. And thank you to everyone who’s been messaging me, that’s been really kind of you. It means a lot to me.”
Susanna, 53, replied: “What a special moment and congratulations to Rosie.” Lorraine couldn’t hide her excitement as she continued to beam and talk about her daughter’s pregnancy.
Rosie announced the happy news on social media on Friday, April 5. Taking to Instagram, she shared a photo showing off her growing baby bump as she showcased her changing body in a figure-hugging black ensemble.
The expectant mother enthusiastically told her followers: “We couldn’t be more excited – you are already so loved, little one.”
She then shared a second photo showing an ultrasound scan of her child at twelve weeks old – captioning it as “the size of a fig”.
Many well-wishers congratulated the star on social media and sent their warmest congratulations to the parents-to-be. Lorraine sent her daughter a sweet message online by reposting a picture of Rosie’s ultrasound scan.
“THE most exciting thing that has ever happened to our family! I can’t wait to become a grandma and am so proud of Rosie and her Steve. This is the best news ever!” the TV presenter wrote sweetly.
