District judge of Reasi orders deposit of licensed weapons

Reasi (J&K): Jammu and Kashmir District Magistrate Reasi has asked police authorities to facilitate the surrender of arms in view of the assembly elections scheduled to begin in the third week of September.

Order submitted

A notification from the office of the District Magistrate Reasi on August 20 said, “In view of the prevailing law and order situation in the Reasi District and to ensure a peaceful, free and fair environment for the forthcoming Legislative Assembly Elections, 2024, it has been decided by the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi in a meeting held on 20.08.2024 that all holders of valid arms license shall surrender their arms at the nearest police station. In this regard, all concerned SHOS and I/C police posts are required to facilitate surrender of arms in their Malkhanas immediately against proper receipt.”

The order was signed by Kul Bhushan Khajuria, Deputy District Magistrate of Reasi. Security guards working in banks/ATMs/Railway companies in Reasi district are exempted from the order.

Indian Election Commission issues notification for parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir

The Election Commission on Tuesday issued the notification for the first phase of the parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir, marking the beginning of the nomination process.

In the first phase on September 18, 24 seats in the Assembly will be voted on.

The last date to submit nominations for the first phase is August 27, while the examination will be held on August 28. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is August 30.

The seats that will be voted on in the first phase are Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, DH Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus – Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Padder-Nagseni, Bhadarwah, Doda, Doda West, Ramban and Banihal.

A total of 90 constituencies are elected in Jammu and Kashmir. The last parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir took place in 2014.

The counting will take place on October 4th.
