AJ Dillon tops Packers injury list ahead of season finale

AJ Dillon tops Packers injury list ahead of season finale

On Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers updated their injury report and added five new players to the roster, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. The new injuries include a stinger to RB AJ Dillon, shoulder issues to OL Andre Dillard and TE Tyler Davis, an ailment to DE Preston Smith and a concussion to DE Spencer Waege.

Dillon’s thorn could be the reason for his absence from Sunday’s preseason game against the Denver Broncos, although it is not certain when he sustained the injury.

Smith, who performed well in joint training with the Broncos on Friday, was among 31 players who did not play in Sunday’s game, including many of the team’s regulars.

Dillard, Davis and Waege played a combined 66 snaps in Denver, but their injuries were not reported during the game. All three are vying for positions on the 53-man roster.

Dillard started at left tackle and kept a clean sheet, allowing no sacks or pressures in his seven pass-blocking snaps. Davis, who was penalized for holding, was not targeted or recorded a tackle on special teams. Waege recorded two tackles during his 32 defensive snaps.

Jordan Morgan, the first-round pick who missed the game against Cleveland because of a shoulder injury, resumed individual workouts last week but also had to sit out the game against Denver.

Before his injury, Morgan was the favorite for the right guard position, but now he is competing closely with Sean Rhyan. He will only participate in individual drills on Tuesday, although he may participate in 11-on-11 drills in joint practice with the Ravens on Thursday.

Second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper suffered a hip injury before Family Night and has not yet returned to practice. His participation was limited to observing from afar, about 40 yards behind the defense, to gain insight into his duties as a linebacker.

Cooper will continue individual drills on Tuesday. Before his injury, he was struggling to make up ground in his competition with Eric Wilson for a starting position at baseline.

Running back MarShawn Lloyd, who missed the first week of training camp with a hip injury, had two touches in the season opener against Cleveland before suffering a hamstring injury. He missed the game against Denver and will miss Tuesday’s practice.

The Packers had planned to use Lloyd’s explosiveness and potential for big plays as a change of pace alongside Josh Jacobs and AJ Dillon.

After missing the first preseason game against Cleveland, Ty’Ron Hopper was only able to do position drills in Green Bay on Tuesday and Wednesday before becoming a regular in Denver. He played 51 snaps as a middle linebacker and made 11 tackles, the most on his team.

Rookie linebacker Ralen Goforth sat out Tuesday’s game with a concussion he suffered against the Broncos.

With the final preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, the reserve players have one last chance to show why they deserve a spot on this year’s roster.
