Babe Ruth’s jersey from the legendary “Called Shot” game could fetch million at auction

Whether Babe Ruth actually called his pitch during the 1932 World Series against the Chicago Cubs remains questionable, but the auction of the jersey he wore at that game revives the fascination of this famous moment in the batter’s illustrious career.

Heritage Auctions expects Ruth’s worn New York Yankees jersey from Game 3 of this series to change hands for $30 million.

“This is the holy grail,” Mike Provenzale, production manager for Heritage Sports, told FOX 5.

The owner of the jersey, who bought it nearly 20 years ago, has been trying to prove its authenticity since the purchase. The owner has now finally received the seal of approval, Provenzale explained.

“The Y in York runs right along the placket and where it lines up with the two buttons, and the seam of the placket runs right next to the Y,” Provenzale said. “And if you look at pictures of Ruth from Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, it’s a perfect fit.”

While Provenzale calls it the “Holy Grail” of the sport because of the history behind the jersey, Ruth’s granddaughter Linda Ruth Tosetti sees it differently.

She can’t “imagine” that this jersey could go for $30 million.

“I can hardly believe it. I’m only wearing a shirt, you know?” she said.

But the story behind the jersey is undeniable. Whether you believe Ruth predicted his shot or not, it’s still a game in which he hit two home runs to help the Yankees defeat the Cubs 7-5.

The 1932 World Series was Ruth’s seventh and final championship. The Yankees defeated the Cubs in four games to win their first title since 1928.

Ruth’s Hall of Fame resume is topped by his 714 career home runs, which remained an MLB record until Hank Aaron broke it in 1974.
