Smith claimed that she found her experience in the wizarding world less than fulfilling and left Harry Potter Fans were baffled by her comments. Although she was grateful for the opportunity, the Oscar winner noted that her time in the Potterverse wasn’t exactly her favorite magical experience.

I’m deeply grateful for the work I did in Potter and also in Downton, but it wasn’t what you would call satisfying. I didn’t really feel like I was in those things.

For a character as beloved as Minerva McGonagall, this admission was as unexpected as a surprise visit from a Hogwarts owl. So, after Maggie Smith’s remark, fans felt that the magic of Hogwarts was perhaps a little too tame for the dazzling actress. But that’s all just speculation, as Smith hasn’t explained the reason for her dissatisfaction.

While Maggie Smith’s heart may not have beaten with the same enthusiasm as a Quidditch fan at a World Cup final, her portrayal of Professor McGonagall remained one of the most iconic and beloved characters among fans around the world. Celebrated for her sheer strength, wisdom and no-nonsense charm, Smith’s character will always be remembered as the embodiment of the essence of the head of Gryffindor House.
