Trompo has not had an easy time and is now closing its doors for good.

In January, owner Luis Olvera found himself locked out of his restaurant on Jefferson Boulevard. Olvera owed his landlord $36,000 in back rent, which triggered the lockout.

Trompo moved to five locations in seven years, but the September 2022 move to the Jefferson Boulevard store was Olvera’s hope that it would be his last location. During that time, he also opened two branch restaurants, including a Bishop Arts store that closed in December 2021.

“Jefferson was my final push, my Hail Mary,” said Olvera D Magazine in January.

After being locked out of his store in January, Olvera set up a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $20,000 in donations and allowed him to reopen.

This final closure comes after months of financial difficulties, Olvera told the Dallas morning news.

“I have lost money since I opened this location,” Olvera said in an interview with Morning news. “I’ve literally put everything I have into this, and I’m just going to keep fighting. I just decided it’s best to just say goodbye.”

Trompo has had a good run. In 2016, the taqueria attracted national attention after it was Bon appetit‘s list of the best tacos in the country.
