The vast majority of Harry Potter fans would probably agree that the death of Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts, was the most tragic in the entire series.

However, author JK Rowling admitted that she most regrets the death of a minor character in “The Prisoner of Azkaban.”

On her Pottermore website, Rowling writes that the kidnapping and subsequent death of Florean Fortescue, the owner of the ice cream parlor in Diagon Alley, still disturbs her.

“I had originally planned for Florean to be the conduit for the clues I would need to give Harry during his search for the Hallows, so I got to know him pretty early on,” she writes.

“The problem was that when I was writing the key parts of Deathly Hallows, I came to the conclusion that Phineas Nigellus Black was a far more satisfactory vehicle for delivering clues.

“It seemed like I had him kidnapped and killed for no good reason. He’s not the first wizard Voldemort has murdered because he knew too much (or too little), but he’s the only one I feel guilty about, because it was all my fault,” she wrote.
