A World of Warcraft developer has confirmed that The War Within beta, which rewarded players with appearance items tied to the race they were playing, was indeed a bug and is being fixed.
Back when The War Within was still in beta, players were quite pleasantly surprised to see their characters rewarded with cosmetic items that they couldn’t equip. For example, elves received items for quests that only dwarves could equip, but it turns out that this was all a bug on World of Warcraft’s part.
“I’m afraid this is incorrect and was most likely a bug during the beta. Sorry,” reads a post by a Blizzard developer on the studio’s forums in response to a player’s post that said he was able to obtain items for a race that had nothing to do with his character. Reactions from Blizzard forum users to the developer’s revelation have not been positive.
“This is hugely disappointing. I was incredibly excited to become a loremaster and get all the quest reward mogs that way. Now I feel very disappointed,” reads one reply. “Unfortunately, we created something good that everyone liked. It has now been fixed and removed. Have a bad day,” adds another forum user, mimicking Blizzard’s response.
Some users are confused because they took comments from deputy game director Morgan Day in May to indicate that players will receive all rewards when completing quests. “Quests still grant transmog and should be retroactive,” Morgan said when asked about cross-armor rewards, but now it seems the developer was more likely talking about general armor transmogs.
World of Warcraft: The War Within releases later this month on August 26, and Blizzard has already announced that it is making major changes to the Radiant Echoes event, making it appear more regularly and in more locations.
Months after Xbot shut down lean teams, Microsoft reportedly launches a “smaller” studio to develop AA games based on Blizzard IP.
