Kelly Brook is shocked by the harsh reality of the Celebrity Race Across The World

Kelly Brook has admitted she was shocked by the harsh reality of Celebrity Race Across The World after seeing Harry Judd and his mother sewing during a train journey in the first season.

Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi are taking part in the new series, which takes them through South America, and have to contend with cheap accommodation and long bus rides.

The former glamour model told Loose Women she was lulled into a false sense of security by watching much softer scenes in the first series of the BBC One celebrity drama.

Viewers of Celebrity Race Across The World commented that Brook had apparently never seen the show before, as she struggled to stick to a budget and endure long bus rides when the series debuted.

But the former glamour model told Loose Women the truth on Tuesday: she had actually watched the first series and had expected a much quieter journey after watching Harry Judd and his mother Emma doing crafts and drinking coffee on train journeys through Europe.

She admitted she was shocked by the much tougher journey she and Jeremy Parisi experienced from northern Brazil to southern Chile, spending entire days and nights on the bus, struggling to save money.

When asked by Loose Women if it had been harder than expected, Brook recalled scenes from the first series in which McFly drummer Harry Judd tried his hand at cross-stitching to pass the time on a train journey while his mother Emma got out her knitting.

She said: “We were sitting there watching the latest celebrity series and we saw Harry Judd and his mother travelling on a train across Europe, which was probably six hours, she was knitting, he was having a coffee and I said: Jeremy, it’s not going to be that bad.”

“Cut to us in South America, where we’re sitting on a bus for 26 hours. Imagine 200 people in one toilet on a bus. It’s horrible.”

In an interview before filming the show, Brook admitted there were moments she found difficult. She said: “We like air conditioning when we get to a hotel, we like a minibar, we like an airport shuttle and all of those things are just completely removed. But then when we’re actually in a place.”

The model admitted that she will also miss her beauty routine. She added: “I will miss my beauty routine. I have tried to take lotions and tinctures with me, but they are so heavy. I have about 4 kg of makeup and serum with me and I know I have to pare that down to almost nothing. 4 kg is a lot when you carry it on your back.”

After the first episode, some viewers also accused Brook of bossing her husband Parisi around – but she revealed that their real dynamic was the opposite.

Speaking on Loose Women, she said: “The crazy thing is that I’m quite a dominant character, I’m very loud, I want to be heard, but Jeremy was the one who was quietly in control of the whole thing. Even when I was raging and screaming and crying – and I did everything, believe me, to get a room upgrade – I had to ask him for 10 pesos if I wanted to go to the toilet.

“I had very little say in the money, I wasn’t really responsible for it. Jeremy was the calculator and I was the compass, that’s how we handled it.”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV1.
