Cook County Sheriff Charged with Aggravated Hit-and-Run Violation on West Side

Cook County Sheriff David Salmon has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Greektown, Chicago, that left jogger Kelly Mahan seriously injured.

CHICAGO (WLS) — A Cook County sheriff has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that occurred in Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood earlier this month.

David Salmon is said to have hit and seriously injured 44-year-old jogger Kelly Mahan on August 3 at the corner of Madison and Halsted.

Mahan’s family told ABC7 that running was her therapy after she survived a brain aneurysm several years ago and that she began competing as a result, but right now she’s facing a number of medical hurdles.

Salmon was charged with failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury.

Salmon was stripped of his police powers and given administrative duties.

The sheriff’s office said an internal investigation has been launched into Salmon, which could lead to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
