Kamala Harris’ economic plan gets green light from Mark Kelly

PHOENIX – U.S. Senator Mark Kelly believes Vice President Kamala Harris is the better presidential candidate on economic issues.

That’s not just because they’re both Democrats — or because she considered him as a running mate before settling on Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Kelly said the reason for this is because of the steps she and President Joe Biden took during their time in the White House.

“When I travel through Arizona, I meet families who are still struggling to make ends meet,” Kelly said Arizona Morning News from KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday. “Often people, especially seniors, have to make difficult decisions between buying groceries and buying their prescription drugs.”

What the Biden-Harris administration has done for the people – especially seniors – proves its economic competence, he added.

“This administration has brought about a transformation in prescription drug prices, especially for seniors,” Kelly said.

He pointed to the Inflation Control Act, which he helped negotiate. Harris supported the bill that Democrats passed in Congress. It reformed Medicare to set a $2,000 per year cap on out-of-pocket drug costs. It also capped the cost of insulin at $35.

“This is changing the lives of hundreds of thousands of seniors in the state of Arizona alone,” Kelly said. “These measures are having a profound positive impact on the people and on Arizona.”

In addition, Harris wants to reduce the costs of child care, food and housing, he said.

“Just last week I had a panel on affordable housing,” Kelly said. “Seniors are the most homeless people in the state of Arizona. And that’s a big problem; Kamala Harris is focused on that.”

He also said that the US would benefit more from Harris’ economic policies than from those of her rival.

“We don’t need four more years of Donald Trump,” Kelly said. “Tax cuts for billionaires while the middle class is left out – that’s not what we need from a head of state.”
