Good start for BDHS girls golf

The Beaver Dam High School girls golf team opened the Brookfield Central/Menomonee Falls Invitational at Wisconsin Country Club in Milwaukee on Monday. The event will be held at Wanaki Golf Course on Tuesday.

“As a team, we are currently ranked 22nd (after day one) at +137. Reigning state champion DSHA leads at +36. BDHS sophomore McKenna Nelson is tied with Green Bay Preble’s Emma Cunningham and Brookfield East’s Paryton Haugen for first with a par of 72. McKenna started on hole 7 and was 3 over par after hole 10. After birdies on holes 14, 15 and 17, she was back on par. She bogeyed hole 18 but birdied hole 5 to get back on par. It was an impressive comeback for McKenna today on a course she had never played before. She stuck to her plan and started her sophomore year with a solid first day. Sophomore Mia Nortman shot a personal best of 108 today. Mia has improved so much in her sophomore year. She will continue to get better every day. She put up solid times last summer and looks like a player that is going to be really good. Senior Lillianne Fister had 121. This is her second season and I know she can still improve a lot. She just started playing competitively last year and will have some good days for us this year. Sophomore Kamryn Albert shot 124. Kamryn had 2 pars today which shows what she is capable of. She just needs a little more experience and her results will improve a lot. Sophomore Claire Karus shot 142. Claire hits a lot of good shots. She just needs to get comfortable competing. There is a difference and the more she gets used to it the better she will get. Senior Jennifer Bennett will play a lot for us this year. Jennifer has been a solid player for our program the last 3 years and will play a lot for us this year. She has a good golf game and our team needs her to have her best year this year. Sophomore Avery Duax and freshman Ellie Klug are new this year, but they are athletic and show a lot of promise this year. We are very excited to have these two new players in our program.” – Coach Tim Chase
