Cincinnati Reds Minor League Match Report: August 19, 2024

The Dominican Summer League teams were the only ones in action on Monday, and both were able to pick up wins. The Reds’ victory kept their playoff hopes alive with one game remaining in the regular season.

Game Notes

The Reds won and have a chance of securing the second and final wild card spot before the final game of the season on Tuesday. At 36-18, they are half a game behind the Tigers 2 and tied with the Rockies.

Yael Romero continued to rack up hits and walks, reaching base five times Monday afternoon. He has appeared in 12 games since July 29 and has a batting average of .400/.660/.520 with 17 walks and four strikeouts in 47 plate appearances.

Angelo Mora continued his hitting streak in August, recording two more hits and posting a .342/.390/.500 hit average in 11 games.

Rafhlmil Torres has also been swinging a great bat here in August. In 10 games this month, he’s hit .333/.474/.567. His two-hit day on Monday pushed his average for the year to .204, which is the highest he’s hit at the end of a day this season.

Bryan Salgado has not allowed an earned run since his third appearance of the season. He lowered his ERA to 1.27 this season.

Game Notes

Yojanser Calzado was able to extend his hitting streak to five games. In these five games he went 7-17 with three walks.

Pablo Nunez extended his hitting streak to six games. He hit well in August, hitting .313/.425/.469 with more walks (6) than strikeouts (5).

Enmanuel Talavera had a 5.65 ERA in five games in June. Since then, he has thrown 33.0 innings in eight games and allowed four runs. That’s a 1.09 ERA. That’s helped lower his ERA on the season to 2.47, with nine walks and 44 strikeouts in 47.1 innings pitched.
