Antique Firearms Day among weekend activities | News, Sports, Jobs

The Tuscarora Academy Museum is hosting Antique Firearm Day on Sunday.

Attention history buffs! The Tuscarora Academy Museum will be displaying its collection on Antique Firearms Day, while riders can enjoy a trail ride at the Juniata Saddle Horse Association’s Fall Trail Ride.

These are just two of the things you can do in Juniata Valley this weekend. Check out these events:

Live entertainment

Fairs and festivals

• Mifflin County Youth Fair, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Saturday, Mifflin County Youth Park, 110 W. Logan St., Reedsville. Thriving with opportunity, rooted in agriculture. Livestock

Shows, chainsaw carving, competitions, live entertainment and fun for the whole family.

• Locust Run Church Festival, 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Locust Run Church Festival, 25 Route 2007, Thompsontown. Enjoy homemade soups, barbecue, hot dogs, French fries, homemade pies, homemade ice cream and beverages. Entertainment provided by the Gingriches.

• Community Block Party, Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., First Baptist Church parking lot, 23964 Route 35 North, Mifflintown. There will be a large inflatable obstacle course, carnival games, food and lots of fun for all ages.

Fundraiser

• Fundraiser for the Mike Ryan family at Bread of Life Restaurant, 6 to 9 a.m. Saturday, 30644 Route 35 North, McAlisterville. Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries is hosting a fundraiser for the Mike Ryan family. Come enjoy a great meal and tell your server you want to help Mike Ryan. A portion of your bill will be donated to the Ryan family and their expenses. On July 2, Ryan was electrocuted in a construction accident. He suffered severe burns on the top of his foot, right arm and hand. He has already undergone several surgeries.

• Back to School Bingo, Saturday 6-8 p.m., Faith in Christ Community Church, 32 Main St., East Waterford, is hosting an event for ages 5-16. Prizes include backpacks and school supplies. There will also be admission and snacks.

Autumn ride

The Juniata Saddle Horse Association Fall Ride will be held Saturday evening from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 255 Lost Creek Road, Oakland Mills. There will also be a short ride Friday evening and a longer ride Saturday. Meals are included. Camping is available. Ride fees are based on age. To register, call (717) 994-5169.

Antique Firearms Day

The Tuscarora Academy Museum’s Antique Firearms Day will be held Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, located at 472 Academia Road.

Mifflin. The event is presented by the Juniata County Historical Society and guest speaker is Stephen Renno.
