  • ⌚ Google Pixel Watch 3 has a larger size of 45 mm with a larger battery

  • 🔋 Its 420 mAh battery lasts 35% longer than the Google Pixel Watch 2

  • 🤏 The Pixel Watch 3 in size 41 mm still has last year’s 306 mAh battery

  • 🪫 Battery saving mode allows a runtime of 36 hours, in addition to the standard 24 hours

  • ⚡Both sizes of Pixel Watch 3 charge 20% faster – just 28 minutes to 50%

I tested the new Google Pixel Watch 3 last week at the Made By Google launch event in Mountain View, California, and I can already tell you that it’s a big upgrade over the Pixel Watch 2 from 10 months ago. Mainly, in addition to the returning 41mm size, it’s now available in a larger 45mm size, so all wrists will appreciate this 3rd generation smartwatch.

One thing that will have to wait until The Shortcut is complete Google Pixel Watch 3 in review Battery life will be assessed closer to the September 10 release date, but I can tell you now that the Pixel Watch 3’s specs show significantly improved battery capacity for the 45mm watch size and much faster charging speeds than last year’s battery.

We have seen many similar improvements in battery life in our practical testing Review of Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, Google Pixel 9 reviewAnd Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold reviewalso at the launch event of “Made by Google”.

After testing the Google Pixel Watch 2 again over the weekend, I can already tell you that battery life is problematic if you don’t charge it daily. I even turned the Wear OS smartwatch off overnight and the battery Despite it died the next morning. The same was true in our Google Pixel Watch review a year earlier.

A lot has changed in 10 months. The Google Pixel Watch 3 has a 420mAh battery, which is 35% more than the 41mm Pixel Watch 2 and the 45mm Pixel Watch 3. Unless you have small wrists, you should buy the larger 45mm watch.

The 41mm size stays at 306mAh. There’s still a chance the 41mm Pixel Watch 3 will last longer, as it has a power-efficient dual-engine processor – it won’t always use the Qualcomm SW5100 performance chip. I’ll test both watch sizes to let you know the true battery life benchmarks.

But 35% longer battery life on the Pixel Watch 3 in the 45mm size? That’s great news.

How many hours does the larger battery on the Google Pixel Watch 3 last? According to Google, up to 36 hours. However, it should be noted that this is the battery saving mode that turns on when the battery level drops below 15%.

Battery saving mode turns off certain features like the always-on screen and tilt-to-wake functionality. Google touts that Battery saving mode turns on automatically (if you allow it) to simplify the process.

I should note that this is not one of the Wear OS smartwatches that can last 100 hours. Earlier this year we saw the OnePlus Watch 2 last 100 hours It runs two chipsets, the Snapdragon W5 Performance chipset and a BES 2700 MCU Efficiency chipset. We asked Google why this is, as the Pixel Watch 3 has a similar dual-engine processor architecture.

Comparison between Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Ultra 2

The Google Pixel Watch 3 is cheaper (just $349 for the 41mm size and $399 for the 45mm size) and lighter than its sportier smartwatch competitors, as seen in our Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra review. The same applies to the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

However, the Google Pixel Watch 3’s less robust body means there’s no room for an even larger battery of more than 420mAh. However, I do appreciate the sleek, minimalist design of this watch with curved glass.

Basically, you can’t have a robust sports watch with a huge battery and a light and stylish watch at the same time. Physics really stands in the way of that with the Pixel Watch 3 – until Google makes a sports-oriented smartwatch in the future.

While I’m focusing on the battery life of the Google Pixel Watch 3, it’s important to note that the smartwatch charges 20% faster than the Pixel Watch 2. According to Google, this saves you a full 15 minutes when charging from 0% to 100% compared to last year’s watch.

Battery charging specifications for Google Pixel Watch 3 (45mm):

  • 28 minutes to 50%

  • 50 minutes to 80%

  • 80 minutes to 100%

Battery charging specifications for Google Pixel Watch 3 (41mm):

  • 24 minutes to 50%

  • 35 minutes to 80%

  • 60 minutes to 100%

If you’re wondering why the Pixel Watch 3 41mm seems to charge slower than the 45mm version, you need to remember that the battery sizes are different. The larger 45mm version takes longer to reach 100% but lasts much longer in the long run.

Stay tuned for our full review of the Google Pixel Watch 3 in both sizes as the September 10 release date draws ever closer.
