Netflix spends money on the success of “Bear Hunt”

Netflix is spending £10 million to sign big stars for its new reality show “Bear Hunt”.

Holly Willoughby will host the celebrity competition show, which will see famous faces compete against survival expert Bear Grylls in various challenges set in the South American jungle, and bosses at Netflix are sparing no expense to make the show a success.

A source told British newspaper The Sun’s TV Biz column: “Similar celebrity-presented challenge shows such as ‘Strictly’ and ‘I’m a Celeb’ often see the line-up of contestants vary from little-known individuals to established stars.

“Netflix is determined that their library will be mostly killer movies with very little filler. They don’t skimp on paying six-figure fees and aren’t afraid to shell out more for the biggest names.

“All in all, they’ll be shelling out eight figures, making the cast one of the most expensive in reality TV history.”

The show will air on the streaming service next year.

Netflix previously announced on Instagram: “Introducing Bear Hunt – in this new action-packed competition show, a group of unlikely British celebrities are dropped into the Central American jungle as prey for one of the world’s most fearsome predators… @beargrylls! Hosted by @hollywilloughby – coming to Netflix in 2025.”

Holly then shared the post on her Instagram story with the caption: “Breaking News.”

A source told The Sun newspaper the show would be a “big challenge” for Holly as it was her first show away from terrestrial television.

The 43-year-old star was first considered as host of the show in January.

A source said at the time: “Bear is working with a production company for Netflix. They want Holly to be the presenter.

“A group of celebrities are sent into a jungle where they must overcome a series of challenges.

“She is very glamorous and an accomplished hostess.

“Holly is open to offers. She will not rush into anything and will choose her next projects carefully.”

This isn’t Holly’s first time presenting in the jungle. In 2018, she co-hosted a season of ITV’s “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” with Declan Donnelly, temporarily taking over the place of Dec’s regular co-host Ant McPartlin.
