The way an elderly cat thanked her new owner in a recent TikTok video quickly melted the hearts of people online.

The 20-year-old cat, named Buttons, was living in a shelter and needed hospice care. Hospice care for cats, also called palliative care, focuses on improving the cat’s quality of life at the end of its life. This care is typically provided when a cat has a terminal illness, a chronic condition or the natural aging process, BetterVet reported in an article earlier this year.

TikTok user @catladybrittany gave Buttons the chance to care for her in her golden years. This owner gave the white cat a new home so she could receive hospice care. Instead of being in a shelter, she is now surrounded by comfort and love. And the cat’s reaction was instantly worth it.

In the TikTok video posted last week, the older cat sat on top of her new owner. She couldn’t get close enough. Face to face, the cat kept rubbing her little head against her owner’s. This is a sign of love and affection. Buttons expressed gratitude for giving her a home in her remaining days.

The owner quickly learned that her senior cat is “the sweetest little old lady,” but she also discovered that it didn’t take long for Buttons to feel at home. The senior cat immediately bonded with the dogs and played with them throughout the house.

Buttons has also found her “spark” again, as @catladybrittany mentioned in a separate video. That spark is nothing other than food. Buttons has been trying to sneak into the kitchen cabinets and jumping on the countertops to eat the crumbs left there.

“I wasn’t prepared for such an active senior!” wrote @catladybrittany in the comments section. “My others who are 16 and 17 aren’t this busy at all. But I love it!”

“I’m going to cry she looks so cute,” wrote one TikTok user.

Another commented: “She probably held on and waited that long.”

A third user posted: “We got a cat from hospice, we were told she only had a year to live at most. Seven years later she is doing great and as sassy as ever.”

A fourth wrote: “Ugh your kindness makes me cry and it’s so beautiful and sweet.”
