Olmsted Falls City School District Denies Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Access

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – New shoes. New clothes. New teacher.

Four-year-old Matt Perez was excited to attend the Olmsted Falls City School District as a kindergarten student in the 2024-2025 school year.

“He’s always been pretty smart – that’s what people tell me,” said Matt’s mother, Sara Perez.

After her child’s daycare provider recommended that she get her child tested for early entry into kindergarten, Sara Perez thought it was worth a try.

But after Matt’s IQ scores came back from the testing center, he was denied access to the Early Childhood Education Center.

Sara Perez then decided to appeal to the Board of Education and ask them to reconsider their decision.

She never received a response, instead she received emails saying that Matt had been enrolled in kindergarten.

Just a week ago, Sara Perez received an email from the school principal saying that she had made a mistake and that Matt had been withdrawn from the kindergarten program because he had failed the first IQ test.

“He’s already attached to the teacher, for example, he’s learned to spell her name and pronounce ‘Early Childhood Education Center,'” said Sara Perez.
