Mother demands justice after her 7-year-old son is killed while skateboarding

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland police are still searching for the driver who struck and killed 7-year-old Amir Maclin. Amir was riding his skateboard in the parking lot of Lakeshore Beach Apartments when he was killed.

Now Amir’s grieving mother, Rayshawnda Maclin, says she wants answers and will fight for her son until someone is held accountable.

“I have the impression that nothing is being done and that the matter must not be allowed to stall,” says Maclin.

Rawshawnda says her son Amir liked everything he tried.

“There was nothing he didn’t like, wrestling, man. That was his first year as a football player. He loved playing outside. He was just a joy to be around,” Maclin says.

She says her son has been a wonderful big brother to her two-year-old daughter.

After Amir was hit, he was taken to hospital but later died.

“I can’t eat, I can’t sleep. I close my eyes and see images of my son that no mother should see,” says Maclin.

The driver drove off seconds after the accident.

“He hit my baby and they say they dragged him and tried to back up at high speed and back out,” Maclin says.

On Saturday morning, police found the SUV, but it was abandoned.

Although investigators had possession of the car, they have not yet named a suspect.

“He killed a seven-year-old child. I just think a person of interest should be in the public eye,” Maclin says.

She says she won’t sleep until the police make an arrest.

Outside the apartment complex, a growing memorial to Amir is taking shape, with balloons, stuffed animals, candles and cards.

A memorial for Amir Maclin, who was killed in the parking lot of the ..., continues to be built.
