Marquis Crosby was one of 89 college football student-athletes from 67 different schools named to the nominee list for the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award, announced by College Sports Communicators in conjunction with The Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl Organization.
This news comes one day after Crosby was also named to the 2024 Doak Walker Award watchlist announced by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.
Crosby, a running back from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, missed almost the entire 2023 season due to injury; his only appearance came at UTEP.
The redshirt junior is looking to return to his 2022 form, a season in which he started 10 times in the backfield, leading his team in rushing with 918 yards and scoring nine rushing touchdowns (three games with multiple TDs).
He scored over 100 carries in four games this season, culminating in a 197-yard performance in the Bulldogs’ 52-17 win over Stephen F. Austin.
Since 2018, the award has recognized college football student-athletes who have overcome injury, illness or other circumstances. At the end of each season, a panel of college football writers, editors and sports information directors will vote to honor three college football student-athletes as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
