Iowa residents affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding on April 26-27 and May 20-31 have until August 23, 2024, to apply for FEMA disaster assistance.

Iowa: Homeowners and renters affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in Adair, Adams, Cedar, Clarke, Harrison, Jasper, Mills, Montgomery, Polk, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, Story And union Counties can apply for FEMA disaster assistance until April 1, 2018. 23 August 2024.

How to apply to FEMA

Anyone who uses a relay service such as Video Relay Service (VRS), closed captioning phone service, or other services can provide FEMA with the number for that service. An accessible video on three ways to apply for FEMA assistance can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU7wzRjByhI.

Disaster assistance is available regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, English proficiency, or economic status. If you or someone you know has been discriminated against, call FEMA toll-free at 833-285-7448. Multilingual staff are available (press 2 for Spanish).

Post-disaster housing assistance program

By applying for disaster assistance from FEMA, some residents may be eligible for the Disaster Recovery Housing Assistance Program (DRHAP). The program provides up to $50,000 to homeowners who are repairing their primary residence, helping to fill financial gaps. Learn more: Pr.Pott.Co/News_DRHAP824

Pottawattamie County Needs Assessment Survey

Homeowners can complete the Pottawattamie County Needs Assessment Survey in the following ways:

  • Call West Central Community Action at 712-322-2621, where a team member can complete the survey on behalf of a resident over the phone.
