LAKE MARY, Florida – Baseball is as much about what happens on the field as it is about the people in the stands sharing the moment with them, and the city of Lake Mary is certainly proud of its team playing in the Little League World Series.

Monday at 7 p.m. the Lake Mary All-Stars will play against the Southwest Champions from Boerne, Texas.

At home, there have been fundraisers and viewing parties in restaurants and sports bars. Stores across the city have posted flyers supporting the team.

A Go Fund Me page set up for the team has accumulated online donations to cover travel expenses while their families remain in Williamsport for the tournament.

News 6 spoke to people here at home on Monday before the next big All-Star game.

“It’s really exciting to see them represent our city,” Randy Seidler said. “Every time they play, we get really excited. We jump off the couch.”

Randy Seidler’s family has been watching the All-Star games on TV at home. Christy Seitz says her family is cheering her on, too.

“We watch each other every time they play,” Seitz said. “I work for the school system and I’m so happy to encourage all the kids.”

Javier Castro says he knows the team’s coach.

“I want to support John,” Castro said. “Every time we play basketball, he tells us about the pitchers. I’m happy for him. He deserves it.”

“Head up and just hang in there. Do your best,” added David Bailey. “You have the full support of Lake Mary.”

Rebecca Shipley said she was proud to follow the team’s journey in Williamsport.

“They’re putting Lake Mary on the map,” Shipley said. “I have three little grandchildren. Two grandsons, and one of them has already decided he wants to play baseball.”
