Yankees’ Anthony Volpe is “in good spirits” after leaving the game against the Angels with a bruised foot

The Yankees received good news about shortstop Anthony Volpe.

In the final inning of the team’s 9-4 loss to the Angels on Thursday night, the young infielder was taken out of the game with what the team called “soreness in his left foot” after he dropped a ball with his foot in the second inning.

The Yankees said he was being examined by the team doctor and manager. Aaron Boone gave an update on Volpe after the game.

“X-ray negative. He’s doing pretty well now. We’re treating it as a bruise,” Boone said. “Hopefully everything will be OK and he’ll be OK.”

When asked if he thought Volpe would be back in the lineup on Friday when the team’s three-game series against the Texas Rangers begins, Boone said he didn’t know, but he believed Volpe would be fine.

Volpe left the three-game series with the Angels 0-for-3 with one strikeout and 1-for-11 with one RBI.

In his second season, Volpe had an up and down year. He started out great, hitting .282 through May and was arguably the team’s third best hitter behind Juan Soto And Aaron RichterHowever, his numbers dropped when the team hit a slump in June.

Since the All-Star break, however, Volpe has rebounded, increasing his average from .245 to .257 and hitting five of his 11 home runs since the start of the second half of this season.

When the Yankees play on Friday – the weather forecast calls for inclement weather – first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and Volpe’s status for that game will be determined by then.
